Welcome to Year 3
This term in English we are reading Egyptology and we will be creating our Egyptian mystery and diary entry based on this text and its amazing illustrations. After the half term break we will be reading Into the Forest by Anthony Browne and the children will be writing their own Lost narrative and newspaper report. In our English lessons this term we will be covering lots of new punctuation and grammar devices such as conjunctions, time adverbials, direct speech and the prefixes auto- super- anti- and un-.
In Maths we will be covering the next part of our fractions topic which includes equivalent fractions using our Power Maths scheme of work. We will later go on to cover time, angles and properties of shapes (which the children have learnt about in Lent term during perimeter and length), Mass (which we have covered in our forces topic) and capacity. The children’s learning will be greatly supported by accessing Mathletics and Timetable Rockstar’s at home for their weekly homework tasks.
Our RE learning this term will cover the topics of Energy (Gifts of the Holy Spirit), Choices (Conscience and the Sacrament of Reconciliation) and finally Special Places (Holy places for Jesus and the Christian community). The children will be using these topic themes to help plan our weekly whole class Collective Worships. We are looking forward to lots of discussions with the children and inspiring those wonder moments.
During science this term the children will be learning all about plants and we will be revisiting our Animals including humans topic, we cannot wait to do lots of fun practical activities to really engage their learning.
Our Design and Technology topics this term include Structures and Food. The children will be exploring seasonality of fruits and vegetables and will be engaging in practical activities to bake their own seasonal tart using their new skills!
Our humanities focus this term will cover The Roman Empire and the impact on Britain – we look forward to learning new historical events and building up our timeline of British history.
Our Music focus through Charanga this term will be the Dragon Song. This topic will focus on listening skills and encourage children to use key musical vocabulary verbally in these lessons. We are looking forward to hearing the children sing and explore a new music genre.
Our PE sessions this term focus on many different areas and the children are very fortunate to receive some professional coaching on our Outdoor sessions. We will cover Net/Wall Games, Striking and fielding and athletics.
In PSHE the children will be covering lots of different topics using our new SCARF scheme, we look forward to engaging in lots of discussions and fun activities and learning more about our community.
Our French lessons will include Children learning about and repeating different modes of transport and being able to describe event in their lives.
