Welcome to Year 4

Jesus

In RE, we are focusing on Jesus’ Family Tree, specifically the lives of Abraham, Ruth, Solomon and Joseph. We will also be looking at our families and looking at our experiences in our own family today. We will be sharing our  own family experiences and discussing how family is the first place for growth and development. Later on, we will be looking at Belonging through the Sacraments of Baptism and Confirmation and exploring how our lives are marked through new situations and belonging into new groups. Later on, in Advent, we will be focusing on Loving and how gifts given and received are a sign of loving. We will explore how Advent is a time when we appreciate the love in our lives and prepare to celebrate love becoming a reality in the person of Jesus.

In History this term, we will be going all the way back to 410 AD to Anglo-Saxon times and learning all about how they lived their lives and the villages that they spend all their time. We will take a look at how we know everything about the Anglo-Saxon times and even look at some artefacts found in the men and women’s graves.

Anglo Saxon

In Geography, we are taking a look at rivers and exploring the different parts of rivers and the local rivers around our area.

In English, we will be looking at the picture book The Whale and writing our very own story about a boy’s adventurous but terrifying journey to sea. Later on, we will be writing our very own newspaper report and asking the question…Real Whale Spotted or Hoax?

In Maths, our units of work will be Place Value, Addition and Subtraction, Multiplication and Division and Measurement.

In Art, we are looking at formal elements of art specifically focusing on exploring texture and pattern and developing a range of mark-making techniques, making and printing with textured stamps for printing, drawing patterns and recreating a famous geometric pattern.

In Design and Technology, we are working in groups to adapt an existing biscuit recipe, whilst considering the cost of the ingredients and other expenses against a set. We’re even going to have a go at baking some biscuits ourselves!!
